Bio

An award-winning journalist, Walter Shapiro has covered the last eleven presidential campaigns, most recently for the New Republic. Over more than four decades, he has worked for newspapers (USA Today and the Washington Post), news weeklies (Time and Newsweek) and online publications (Yahoo News, Politics Daily, Salon and Slate).

He is the author of Hustling Hitler: The Jewish Vaudevillian Who Fooled the Fuhrer about his con-man great-uncle. He also wrote One-Car Caravan: On the Road with the 2004 Democrats Before America Tunes In, a chronicle of the early skirmishing for the presidential nomination published in 2003.

A current columnist for Roll Call and a fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU,  Shapiro teaches a political science seminar on the news media and presidential campaigns at Yale.
