In my research, I examine the downstream consequences of major twentieth-century policies, such as privatization and prison construction, on the policy influence of local interest groups, such as non-profit contractors, and political behavior. In my dissertation book project, The Policy Influence of Non-Profit Service Providers, I use over one hundred qualitative interviews, participant observation, archival research, and large-N observational methods to investigate where and when non-profits are active and influential in local politics. Other research examines whether public opinion can explain widespread adoption of privatization in local politics and the effects of prison construction on political behavior. My main research interests are local political economy, political behavior, and public policy, and my main fields are American politics and quantitative methods.
