Event description:
The Yale Film Society presents a film screening.
“The Host.”
The story follows the Park family, who must rescue their youngest member, Hyun-seo, after she is abducted by a terrifying amphibious creature that emerges from the Han River. As the family—led by the bumbling but determined father, Gang-du—embarks on a desperate mission, they face not only the monster but also bureaucratic hurdles and misinformation. Through its deft genre subversion and incisive social commentary, The Host serves as a compelling critique of institutional incompetence and environmental recklessness.
Directed by Bong Joon Ho. Korean with English subtitles.
Introduction by Tian Li, Lecturer, Yale Film and Media Studies and Department of East Asian Languages.
