The Yale Center for the Study of Representative Institutions presents:

“Education for What? The History of Education and the Rise of the (American) Research University.”

Day one of a two day conference.

Join us for two days of panel discussions on the history, philosophy, sociology, and politics of education, focusing especially on the origins, rise and influence of the American research university at the end of the nineteenth century. Anthony T. Grafton, Henry Putnam University Professor of History at Princeton, will deliver a keynote address “Education in Another Century: A Memoir with Morals” on Thursday, February 21 at 5pm in Slifka Chapel (80 Wall Street, New Haven, CT).
