Hal Brands is a scholar of U.S. foreign policy. He is the Henry A. Kissinger Distinguished Professor of Global Affairs at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. He graduated from Stanford University and earned a Ph.D. in history from Yale University.

Emma Ashford is a resident senior fellow with Atlantic Council’s the New American Engagement Initiative in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. Her work focuses on questions of grand strategy, international security, and the future of US foreign policy. She has expertise in the politics of Russia, Europe, and the Middle East.
