Amy Basu, Political Science, Yale University: “The Intermediate Capacity Trap: Explaining Inertia in India’s Bureaucracy.”

Utilizing India as a case study, this paper constructs a model of bureaucratic state capacity development with the countervailing influences of pro-social motivation and corruption in a procurement context.

Amy Basu is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Political Science at Yale University. Her substantive interests include the political economy of development, state capacity, middle-income countries and the economics of bureaucracy. Her methodological focus encompasses quantitative methods as well as formal theory.
