The Program in Ethics, Politics and Econonomics presents
Professor Alejandro Poiré, Distinguished University Professor on Government and Public Transformation, Tecnológico de Monterrey and Visiting Research Fellow, Center on Democracy, University of Chicago:
“How to confront democratic backsliding and autocratization: Lessons from Mexico’s failed democratization.”
In this talk, Professor Pioré will reflect upon the political narrative that underpins autocratic attempts worldwide. He will also draw lessons from Mexico’s extraordinarily developed and highly commended electoral institutions, which, he will argue, counter-intuitively contributed to democratic backsliding.
