Mark E. Frank, PhD Candidate in East Asian Languages and Cultures, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign:  “Zomia Lost? ‘Friction of Terrain’ in the Making of a Modern Chinese Highland Regime.”

His research interests include modern Chinese history, modern Japanese history, environmental history, agricultural history, and the history of everyday life.
