“Working with US Census Data in R: Using Tidycensus and Tidyverse Packages to Search for, Download, and Manipulate US Census data.”

This workshop focuses on acquiring and wrangling Census data using the tidycensus and tidyverse packages.

This workshop assumes experience and comfort with using R for data analytic work. If you are new to R, you should start with the “First Steps in R,” “Second Steps in R,” and “Manipulating Data in R using the Tidyverse” workshops.

Software Used: R, RStudio

This workshop covers:

  • Background on the US Census, including survey methodology and data structure
  • Using the tidycensus package to search for and download Census data
  • Wrangling US Census data using tidyverse commands
