The MacMillan Center presents

Manting Huang, Secretary-General of the New School for Democracy :

“The Future of Taiwan’s Democracy.”

The recent 2024 presidential and legislative elections have once again put Taiwan in the global spotlight. How does this election reflect the political attitudes of the Taiwanese people, and what issues are likely to become the focus of political competition in Taiwan’s future? What is the relationship between Taiwan’s democratic politics and its cultural traditions and civil society? We have invited Manting Huang, an expert and participant in Taiwanese politics

The New School for Democracy is a Taiwan-based NGO dedicated to promoting democratic values globally. Previously,  Manting Huang worked as the Democratic Progressive Party’s Deputy Director of the Youth Development Department and as a publicly funded assistant for congressman. She has extensive knowledge of Taiwanese politics and many years of firsthand experience. Manting obtained a Master of Social Sciences in Human Rights from Soochow University in Taiwan.

A former Taiwanese diplomat, Angus Yang, who is now an MPP student at the Jackson School, will be the moderator.
