International Security Studies presents
Jason Hsu, Edward Mason Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and former Taiwanese legislator and semiconductor geopolitics expert:
“The Taiwan Elections and the Future of Cross-Strait Relations.”
International Security Studies will hosta discussion of the recent Taiwan presidential elections and implications for U.S.-China relations. The conversation will be moderated by ISS Executive Director Ted Wittenstein.
From 2016 to 2020 Hsu served as Legislator At-Large in Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan (the national parliament) where he focused on defense, technology, trade and foreign policy. Among the crucial legislative bills that he initiated and sponsored include FinTech Regulatory Sandbox Act, Autonomous Vehicles Management Act, Amendment on Anti-Money Laundering Law, Cybersecurity Management Act, and Virtual Currency Guidelines, Artificial Intelligence Development Act, and Digital Economy Principal Act. Hsu is also prominent advocate for socially progressive legislation, including the Same Sex Marriage Act and End-of-Life Dignity Act.
As a senior research fellow at Harvard Kennedy School, Jason conducts research on semiconductor policy, lecturing frequently on the geopolitical risks associated with Taiwan’s export control and outbound investment policies. His analysis appears regularly in a wide range of media outlets, think tanks, and scholarly publications.
Previously, Hsu was a visiting scholar at Paul Tsai China Center at Yale Law School, where he led a research team to design a crisis simulation on Taiwan blockade contingencies.
