The Institute for Social and Policy Studies presents:

John Eberhart (ITS), Jennifer Rawlings (OSP), Maneesha Joshi (OSP), and Konstantza Popova (Procurement):  “Data Management and Data Use Agreements (DUA’s).”

Have you acquired data from a government agency? Purchased data from a vendor? Contracted with a survey firm to collect data? If you are using data you most likely had an agreement reviewed or may plan to do so soon. We want to hear about your experience.

ISPS is hosting a meeting for faculty and staff with representatives from university offices that review research contracts and we invite you to participate.

The purpose of the meeting is to present an overview of current and proposed university processes and for you to provide input. Our ultimate goal is to facilitate research and we think this meeting can ease the way by having a conversation about any concerns and how to best anticipate potential issues.

For context, I invite you to read this brief article published in Science last month, “Waiting for data: Barriers to executing data use agreements,” which summarizes interviews on the topic with individuals from 48 of the top-50 U.S. universities https://science.sciencemag.org/content/sci/367/6474/150.full.pdf.
