Aslı Bâli, Professor of Law, Yale Law School, Benoit Challand, Associate Professor of Sociology, New School for Social Research and Kian Tajbakhsh, Senior Advisor, Columbia Global Centers, Columbia University: 

“Dilemmas of Decentralization: Three New Books on Power-Sharing and Democratic Governance in the MENA Region.”

Aslı Bâli’s teaching and research interests lie at the intersection of international law and comparative constitutional law, with a focus on the Middle East. She is co-editor of Federalism and Decentralization in the Middle East and North Africa (Cambridge University Press, 2023).

Benoit Challand teaches social theory and political sociology and his research is in historical sociology. He is the author of Violence and Representation in the Arab Uprisings (Cambridge University Press, 2023).

Kian Tajbakhsh works on university-wide initiatives focused on global migration and serves as a professor of international relations in Columbia’s Committee on Global Thought. He is the author of Creating Local Democracy in Iran: State-Building and the Politics of Decentralization, (Cambridge University Press, 2022).
