The Council on Middle East Studies Colloquium presents Asli U. Bali, Law School, Yale University: 

“Negotiating Pluralism: Dilemmas of Decentralization in the Middle East.”

Aslı Bâli is Professor of Law at Yale Law School and President-Elect of the Middle East Studies Association. She joined Yale in 2022 from UCLA where she was Founding Faculty Director of the Promise Institute for Human Rights, and Director of the UCLA Center for Near Eastern Studies. Her research focuses on two broad areas: public international law—including human rights and humanitarian law—and comparative constitutional law, with a focus on the Middle East. Her talk is based on her new co-edited volume, Federalism and Decentralization in the Contemporary Middle East and North Africa, published in February 2023 by Cambridge University Press.
