The Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies presents

Manuela Tahay, Maya K’iche’ scholar and instructor of Maya K’iche’ language: 

“History Flies: How to Make a Kite to Teach Maya Culture.”

Manuela Tahay will lead participants in an activity building kites, which are used during the celebration of Day of the Dead ( Kiq’ij Kaminaqib’)  in late October and early November throughout Central America and Mexico. She will share how cultural knowledge and local history are passed forward in Maya K’iche’ communities, using the traditions and beliefs of Day of the Dead as an example.
