Bio

Luise Papcke is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Political Science at Yale University. She received her PhD in political theory from Columbia University and was previously a postdoctoral fellow at NYU. Her research combines perspectives from liberal and democratic theory, legal analysis, and media studies to examine the meaning of “individuality” in the digital age. Her doctoral thesis examined conceptualizations of ‘sociable individuality’ in the history of liberal thought. Her current project focuses on digital subjectivity, and the challenges that increasing algorithmic governance poses to traditional liberal democratic ideas about individuality and individual autonomy.
