Damon Wells’58 Professor of Political Science, Director of Graduate Studies Helene Landemore was interviewed for a podcast entitled “How to Have Politics Without Politicians“ on Foreign Policy Magazine.

Abstract:

Democracy is in trouble. Several rankings show that the world is in a “democratic recession,” with many countries becoming less free or equal. Polls show that ordinary citizens are losing faith in their governments. Is there a fix?

Hélène Landemore has a radical solution: Get rid of politicians and electoral politics. And instead, create assemblies of ordinary citizens. The Yale professor makes the case for this in her new book, Politics Without Politicians. Landemore joined FP Live to explore this concept and where it might—and might not—work.
