Abstract:
The steady ascent of schools of civic thought in higher education attests to a hunger for the recovery of inherited wisdom that can guide the practice of responsible citizenship. Yet the contemporary economics profession, for all its worthy contributions, continues to resist using such wisdom to inform its analyses of political economy. The profession instead reinforces cramped conceptions of human nature and commercial activity that dissolve comprehension of economics in the wider social and metaphysical order.
