The International History Workshop presents: 

David Sorkin, Yale University:  “Interminable Emancipation: European Jewry’s Quest for Equality, 1550-2000.”

David Sorkin is the Lucy G. Moses Professor of Modern Jewish History and Acting Chair of the Judaic Studies Program. His research focuses on new approaches to the intersection of Jewish and European history since the 16th century. His books include The Transformation of German Jewry, 1780-1840 (1987), Moses Mendelssohn and the Religious Enlightenment (1996), and The Religious Enlightenment: Protestants, Jews and Catholics from London to Vienna (2008). This talk reflects his current research on the history of Jewish emancipation in Europe.
