The Council on African Studies Lecture Series presents

Veronica Waweru, Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies, Council on African Studies, Yale University: 

“Trephination in Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kenya: Socio-ecology of traditional medical practices in a tropical montane forest region.”

Veronica Waweru is a paleoanthropologist and her research focuses on human and human ancestor adaptations to tropical highlands during the Quaternary. Her work emphasizes knowledge co-production with host communities at study sites in human origins research. At the Council on African Studies, she organizes the African Epistemologies for the 21st Century conference series, which explores Indigenous knowledge. Waweru has also contributed  to  multiple  public human origins science print and video communications through works such as The Rift: Scar of Africa and local language TV outlets in Kenya.
