Political Science Interdisciplinary Major

The Standard Major with an Interdisciplinary Concentration allows students to pursue a coherent area of study that crosses disciplinary and departmental boundaries. Examples include (but are not limited to) urban studies, health politics and policy, political psychology, or the politics of a particular world region studied in conjunction with its history, culture, or society.

Students complete the same course requirements as the Standard Major. In addition, they organize their program around an approved interdisciplinary field of concentration. At least seven of the twelve courses counted toward the major must be in the approved field of concentration. In addition, up to three approved courses taken outside the Department of Political Science may count toward those seven courses.

Students considering an interdisciplinary concentration are encouraged to meet with the Director of Undergraduate Studies during their sophomore or junior year to discuss their proposed program of study. Before the meeting, students should complete the Political Science Worksheet.

The formal application must be submitted before the beginning of the November recess in the student’s final year of enrollment.
