The Yale Council on Middle East Studies presents:

Directed by Eran Riklis (France, Germany, Israel, 2004)
In Arabic, English, Hebrew, Russian, and French with English subtitles
Introduction by Frank Griffel, Professor of Islamic Studies, Yale University
Mona’s wedding day may be the saddest of her life. Once she crosses the border into Syria, she will never be allowed back to her beloved family in the Druze village of Majdal Shams, in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Shot on location, The Syrian Bride is a powerful film about physical, mental and emotional borders and the courage it takes to cross them. Told with great humor and compassion, its story provides an emotionally stirring look at the human side of political conflict, focusing on the hopes and dreams of one family trapped in a no-man’s land between two nations.
Followed by a discussion with Eran Riklis, Director and Schusterman Visiting Israeli Artist, University of Pennsylvania.
Sponsored by The Film Studies program, Films at the Whitney, The Program in Judaic Studies, and the Council on Middle East Studies at the MacMillan Center.
