Violeta Davoliute, 2015-16 Joseph Kazickas Fellow:  “”The Culture of Collaboration: Lithuanian Intellectuals under German Occupation (1941-1944)”.

A talk on, “The Culture of Collaboration: Lithuanian Intellectuals under German Occupation (1941-1944)” by Violeta Davoliute, the 2015-16 Joseph P. Kazickas Fellow. She is Senior Researcher, Faculty of History, at Vilnius University, Lithuania. Her research concerns, “The Culture of Collaboration: Lithuanian Writers and the German Occupation (1941-1944)”. Her project focuses on the collaboration of intellectuals with the Nazi regime during the German occupation of Lithuania from 1941 to 1944. The topic is important because the future of Lithuania’ s cultural, social and political development and integration with the West depends in part on its success in coming to terms with the most difficult pages of its past. It is controversial because the study of this difficult past has often been guided by political as opposed to scholarly considerations.
